Pioneer DJM-850

Pioneer is about to release another version of its industry standard DJM series…the DJM 850.  I feel like the DJM 900 Nexus has yet to become widespread as most venues to my knowledge still carry a beat-up DJM 800.

I’ve used the 900 Nexus once so far and although I probably won’t use all of its effects to their full potential, the look of it is sleek and the faders and knobs were ever so smooth.  Then again it might have been because the mixer was basically brand spankin new.  The major differences between it and the DJM 800 are the 2 new color FX and the X-Pad control which gives the beat FX a more instant type of control.

Just checked out the official page for the DJM 850 and I’m not sure if the new features justify anyone with an 800 to upgrade.  Biggest upgrades include the Beat Color FX and built-in USB support for Traktor 2.  So unless you are a Traktor DJ or one that’s crazy about FX, the DJM 850 probably isn’t worth the $2000 investment.  I love Pioneer mixers but sometimes I wonder about these “upgrades”.

Check it out for yourself if you’d like!
